Definition of the BMI or Body Mass Index

It is also called the Quetelet index.

It is an index that permits evaluation of the weight of a person. Today's researchers consider it the weakest criteria for selection. This index does not give an ideal weight, but a zone of normal weight.

- One calculates it in the following way: Weight (in kgs) / (Height in meters)²
- The norms: one considers that a person has a "normal" weight, that is with no risk for health, when his BMI is between 18 and 25kg/ m². Above this zone, the risks for health increase.
